Based on the practice of Nonviolent Parenting and Beyond Consequences paradigms, this workshop will explore the commitment that becoming a parent requires, and our responsibility to build a just, loving, and peaceful world free from physical hurt, shaming or manipulation through “unconditional love.” This course will teach parents how to experience a child’s anger and frustration as well as warmth and affection, acknowledge behaviors from the “brains” perspective, and apply easy to use interventions in order to develop a deeper understanding and connection with their child for years to come.

The Resilient Spirit from Foster Care to Family: Foster Care Guest Panel                                              In Honor of Foster Care Awareness Month

Host: Jeanette Yoffe, M.A., MFT

Children who have been through the foster care system have suffered a profound heartbreak and loss: the loss of their birth family, the loss of their foster families, the loss of their identity and the loss of their history. In this event, participants will hear their stories inside and out. Guests include current and former foster children, foster-parents and foster-adopt parents. Participants will be able to ask questions and meet guests. Workshop is recommended for parents of foster and/or adopted children ages 0-17.

GROUNDBREAKING INTERVENTIONS:
Working with Traumatized Children and Families in Foster Care and Adoption - PART I

Speaker: Jeanette Yoffe, M.A., MFT

This interactive workshop is designed to familiarize participants with new and imaginative ways for working with traumatized children in foster care and adoption and their families. Participants will be provided with a wide variety of play-based methodologies and interventions that have proven successful in working with children over the age of five in foster care and adoption. Participants will learn structured treatment activities, view examples, and receive a detailed handout explaining the goals of treatment, materials needed, and the "how to" approach for each methodology. This workshop is recommended for professionals working in the mental health field.

Due to the tremendous success of Groundbreaking Interventions Part I, we are pleased to offer a second presentation with even more techniques and new and imaginative ways of working with traumatized children in foster care and adoption. Through this experiential workshop, participants will be provided with a wide variety of play-based methodologies and interventions that have proven successful in working with children over the age of five. Participants will learn structured treatment activities, view examples, and receive a detailed handout explaining the goals of each treatment, materials needed, and the "how to approach" for each methodology. Workshop is recommended for professionals working in the mental health field. These interventions are best applicable for children ages 5 to 17. To attend this workshop you do not need to have taken Groundbreaking Interventions Part I.
